Austin Seth Crotts Obituary
CUMBERLAND, MD - Austin Seth Crotts, of Cumberland, MD, passed from this life on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. He had courageously and vigorously faced a battle with Anaplastic Astrocytoma Stage III since 2018 as well as Peripheral Non-Hodgkin’s T Cell Lymphoma in 2020. He was 23 years, four months, and eight days old.
My brother, Austin, was born August 19, 1997, in Cumberland, MD, to our Mom Chelle (Stuck) Crotts and Dad Thomas Crotts. He showed us and everyone who knew him how to live and how to die in Christ Jesus. He walked by faith. Even when the odds were stacked against him, he leaned on God, and he trusted in Him. He left footprints on our hearts and forever now we will be changed by his life, his story, his legacy.
He went to Dennett Road School in Oakland, and after moving to Cumberland in 2005, he attended Bishop Walsh, Lighthouse Christian Academy, and Calvary Christian Academy. He graduated in 2016 from Calvary with plans to make a difference in this world. He enjoyed sports and was active in basketball, baseball, and soccer. Soccer however, stood out from the others. It was evident from age 3 to his freshman year in college he had a passion for being a soccer goalie. In every game he gave it his all and enjoyed every second of it. He was known not only for his soccer accomplishments, but also his bright welcoming personality. He had this way of making people feel calm and protected when around him. With his warm smile, generous spirit, and big heart, Austin was nothing less than a blessing to countless numbers of people. He’d give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, and that's just who he was.
Austin never got the opportunity to meet his maternal grandfather, Tom Stuck, who passed away in 1976, also at age 23; and he had also just lost his paternal grandfather, Darrell Crotts, who passed in 2019. He touched so many people in his life, which leaves many grieving and celebrating his life. To name a few besides his parents are his older brother, Michael Crotts and Michael’s fiancée, Melissa; Mattesyn Crotts, his younger sister; his grandparents: Sue (Boardman) Crotts, Newport News, Virginia, and Harry & Angela (DiSimone) Biggs, Oakland, Maryland; his great-grandfather: Joseph DiSimone, Oakland, Maryland; his aunts and uncles: Marci & J.C. Whitehair, Bruceton Mills, West Virginia, David & Sherry Crotts, Williamsburg, Virginia, Jennifer Whitlock, Mechanicsburg, Virginia; along with numerous cousins; a very special best friend and spiritual brother, Patrick Ware; and all the many people he impacted in his life.
He was cared for by Dr. Blanche Mavromatis, and countless other nurses and doctors who loved him so very much. Of the many people who crossed Austin’s path and were touched by his loving nature, there were some that became his family. Tina Doman (whom Austin called, “Mama #2”), Becky Murphy, Megan Hetrick, Verronyca Grabenstein, Shayna Parsons, and Alice Williams, whom he referred to as his angels, became such a big part of his journey. All of these wonderful people helped Austin live his best life, and he shared his biggest triumphs and struggles with them.
Austin made a commitment to follow Jesus Christ at age 5 in April of 2002, and from then on, his faith grew strong and steady. Even as his body weakened his faith never stopped growing, and he shared with many that he was at peace with the promise of Heaven. Since he was diagnosed, he had a desire to share his story, and this past summer, on July 22, he was able to travel to Rhodes Grove Camp near Greencastle, PA, the church camp he loved and attended all his life, and gave a deeply moving testimony to the high school age campers. There was not one dry eye that night, and he forever impacted every one of those there. The recording of Austin's testimony can be views in the "videos" section of this site.
Friends were welcomed at Adams Family Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD on Saturday, January 16, 2021. The recording can be found on this webstie.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day.” (II Timothy 4:7-8)
For Austin did all things through Christ who strengthened him (Philippians 4:13)!
